UK : The Bangor University Anniversary Research Scholarships in School of Social Sciences

1. Health, social care and social policy

Social care and health care policy and practice; policy evaluation; professional power and health care decision making; historical sociology of health, medicine and welfare; social change, lifestyles and later life.

2. Communities, networks and social movements

The formation of social identities at local, national and international levels; local knowledge, engagement and activism; language, migration and belonging; Wales in comparative perspective. There will be excellent opportunities for researchers to benefit from Bangor’s participation in the Wales Institute of Social & Economic Research, Data & Methods (WISERD)

3. Social control, crime and justice

Crime, conflict and social cohesion; political violence and terrorism; the role of the public in the criminal justice system. Transnational and transdisciplinary research proposals will be particularly welcome. There will be excellent opportunities for researchers to benefit from Bangor’s participation in the Welsh Centre for Crime and Social Justice.

Anniversary Scholarships Application Procedure

The application deadline is 30 April 2010 and we expect to inform applicants of the outcome of their applications by 1st June.

To apply, please complete an on-line University Postgraduate Application Form available here.

To complete an application, you must include with the Postgraduate Application Form:

a statement of not more than 1000 words of how you could contribute to and develop the chosen research project. You should include reference to relevant previous experience, including both academic study and other experience.
