Belgium : Two Phd position in biomedical engineering

The bioMMeda (biofluid, tissue and solid mechanics for medical applications) research unit of Ghent University’s Institute Biomedical Technology (IBiTech) has vacant PhD positions (which can start from 01/01/2010 on) in the fields of
(i) Numerical simulation of stenting procedures of the carotid bifurcation
(ii)Numerical simulation of aortic tissue mechanics, endoprosthetic devices and their interaction in the setting of abdominal aortic aneurysms

Candidates will work in our young, enthusiastic team of biomedical engineers, and contribute to our multidisciplinary projects. All positions are in principle for 4 years (2x2 years) and should lead to a PhD in Biomedical Engineering. The net salary is approximately 1700 euro/month.

Profile

Applicants have a masters degree in engineering, with specialization in biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering or applied physics. Knowledge of numerical simulation tools as Abaqus, Fluent, Ansys, … is considered as an advantage. Candidates can demonstrate an excellent knowledge of English, both in speaking and writing.
