Sponsored Links

The Inverse Modeling and Geostatistics Project, Center for Energy Resources Engineering and Department of Informatics and Mathematical Modelling, DTU.

The Inverse Modeling and Geostatistics Project is offering three PhD student positions for excellent, highly motivated candidates interested in computational geoscience. All three positions are available starting March 1, 2010 or as soon as possible. The positions are for three years.

The positions are associated with DTU's Center for Energy Resources Engineering (CERE) and are funded by The Danish Council for Independent Research - Technology and Production Sciences (FTP), DONG energy, and DTU. The projects are supervised by Professor Klaus Mosegaard, Associate Professor Alexander A. Shapiro, Associate Professor John Bagterp Jørgensen, and Professor Erling H. Stenby.

Project descriptions
The first PhD position is associated with the project Integrated Modeling of Oil Reservoirs, aimed at oil reservoir modeling through simultaneous analysis of seismic data and production data. The position will be affiliated to CERE at DTU Chemical Engineering. The successful candidates must hold a masters degree in engineering or physics.

The second PhD position is connected to the project Risk Assessment and Multiple Scenario Generation from Seismic and Geological Data, aimed at developing methods, algorithms and software for integrated uncertainty assessment and generation of multiple geological scenarios from seismic data and statistical geological information. The position will be affiliated to CERE at DTU Informatics, with co-supervision from CERE at DTU Environment (Associate Professor Ida L. Fabricius.). The successful candidate must hold a masters degree in geoscience, engineering or physics. Candidates with a background in geology and geophysics, and with some experience in geostatistics, will be preferred.

The third PhD position is connected to the Advanced Oil Recovery Methods (ADORE) project and concerns Numerical Methods for Reservoir Simulation and Production Optimization. In this project we develop numerical methods for simulation, optimization and optimal control of large-scale models describing flow in porous media. The aim is to obtain software useful in planning reservoir operations using advanced oil recovery methods. The position will be affiliated to CERE at DTU Informatics. The successful candidates must hold a masters degree in engineering or physics.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarship for the PhD degree is subject to academic approval, and the candidate will be enrolled in the relevant graduate school: MP2T at DTU Chemical Engineering or ITMAN Graduate School Programme of DTU Informatics. Information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies is included in the general rules at DTU, which may be obtained here or from the PhD program office at tel: +45 45251176 or + 45 45251177.

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current Danish rules for PhD degree students.
