Poland : Open Postdoc positions at Microbiology Department

Three postdoctoral positions (eligible are ONLY those who obtained the PhD degree within last for years, since 2006)  are available at the Department of Microbiology headed by prof. Jan Potempa at the Jagiellonian University.  The project will be conducted within the TEAM programme, subsidized by the Foundation for Polish Science within the Innovative Economy Operational Programme 2007-2013. The overall aim of the project is to elucidate the function of proteolytic enzymes produced by P. Gingivalis in development of periodontitis and other diseases clinically-associated with periodontitis, including atherosclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis and aspiration pneumonia. The ultimate purpose of this project is to resolve, whether newly synthesised protease inhibitors may serve as antimicrobials and may be included in novel treatment strategies. The project will be carried out at the department of Microbiology, Jagiellonian University in Krakow.

General Conditions:

· Contract: An initial contract of 2 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of the review.

Post-doctoral fellow 1

We are looking for candidates who hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology or related fields. The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record and research experience in animal research and microbiology. An additional background in cell culture and cell biology is preferred but not required. The successful candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Good communication skills and knowledge of English are essential.

Post-doctoral fellow 2

We are looking for candidates who hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology or related fields. The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record and research experience in cell and tissue culture, microbiology and immunology. An additional background in animal research and cell biology is preferred but not required. The successful candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary team of researchers. Good communication skills and knowledge of English are essential.

 Post-doctoral fellow 3

We are looking for candidates who hold a Ph.D. in molecular biology or related fields. The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record and research experience in protein and peptide purification and characterisation, enzyme kinetics, protein chemistry, protein-protein interactions, and inhibition of protease activity by protein and synthetic inhibitors. An additional background in cell and tissue culture, microbiology and immunology is preferred but not required. The successful candidate is expected to work in an interdisciplinary team
