Australia : Postdoctoral Research Associate in Photonic Crystal Modeling

Sponsored Links
Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to work on an ARC-funded research grant entitled “Linear and Nonlinear Frozen Light.” We require a theorist to investigate, model, and optimise the propagation of waves in structures that exhibit frozen light, as found, for example in some photonic crystals. The successful applicant will join the research team of CUDOS, the ARC Centre of Excellence in Ultrahigh-Bandwidth Devices for Optical Systems. The project has collaborators in ANU, Macquarie University, and UTS as well.

Applicants for this position must satisfy the following criteria: they must have a PhD in Physics, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, and a demonstrated capacity to conduct independent theoretical research and to work in a team environment. Appointees must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and extensive experience with the theory and modeling of photonic crystals.

It is desirable that the appointee has experience with the theory of nonlinear optical effects such as self- and cross-phase modulation, has experience constructing numerical simulation codes, and has demonstrated the ability to collaborate fruitfully with experimentalist coworkers.

The position is full-time fixed term for three years, subject to the completion of a satisfactory probation period for new appointees. Membership of a University approved superannuation scheme is a condition of employment for new appointees. Visa sponsorship and relocation support will be provided to any successful overseas candidates.

Remuneration package: $83k - $90k p.a. (which includes a base salary $70k - $76k p.a., leave loading and 17% employer’s contribution to superannuation).

All applications must be submitted online. To be considered applicants must respond to selection criteria; to do so complete your responses on the online application form. Please note that applications need to include contact details of minimum 3 referees.
