UK : Humanitarianism and Conflict Response PhD

A Master's degree in Humanitarian and Conflict Response, History, Politics, Anthropology, Medicine or related subject, or a Master in a related subject plus appropriate professional accreditation or experience or a Bachelor's degree (1 st or 2:1) plus additional appropriate professional accreditation or experience.

Candidates without a Masters degree must demonstrate evidence of a competent level of professional experience equivalent to at least 48 months continuous employment.

Course fees:

For entry in 2010, the fees are £4,335 (£2,168 for part-time) per annum for home/EU students and £11,300 for international students. These figures will be subject to change for entry in 2011.

 

Scholarships/sponsorships:

Korchinsky PhD studentship & Salford Royal PhD studentship - the Institute will allocate these awards for 2009/10 (Jan 2010 start date). Each comprises a maintenance award and full tuition fees (£11,300 pa) and will be awarded subject to satisfactory progress for a period of four years. The award holders will be expected to undertake an element of teaching or administrative work as a condition of their award.

Applicants for the Scholarship should hold or be expecting a First Class degree award, and/or a Distinction in a related Masters degree.  Applicants who hold a good 2:1 in their first degree will be considered on merit. Applicants should include full details of any teaching experience or areas of expertise on their application form.  Applications including a 500 - 1000 words research statement must be returned by 1 December - see 'How to Apply'.

Step 1

Go to the Applicant's Guide to see what supporting documents you will need to submit with your application (Note that the page contains information specific to taught courses. 

Step 3

Download a referee report form and send it to your referees (to those eligible for the AHRC competition *, this reference can also be used in support of the funding application - as opposed to you chasing a separate one).

Step 4

Complete the standard online application form.

Step 5

You will then receive an email confirming that your application has been received. Claire in Admissions will email you if any of your supporting documents are missing.

You will be informed of our decision by email and post.

There is no specific deadline for the course - we have 4 intake dates through the year: September, January, April, July.
