Clique is offering funded PhD studentships which will address research challenges in the understanding of social and biological networks. Please note, the closing date for this round of applications is 8th March 2009.

Applications are invited for PhD studentships on a large multidisciplinary project on graph and network data analysis and visualisation in the University College Dublin (UCD) and the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG). This research programme will address research challenges in understanding of social and biological networks. These studentships are relevant for students with postgraduate or undergraduate degrees in computer science, statistics, mathematics, HCI, bioscience and related disciplines. These positions are particularly relevant for students with some experience in data mining, visualisation or bioinformatics.

The PhD research will cover topics in:

• anomaly detection
• biological network analysis
• computational techniques in network analysis
• models of information flow
• probabilistic network models
• information visualisation.

The PhD studentships cover academic fees and a generous stipend for a four year period. The researchers will be based in the Complex and Adaptive Systems lab in UCD and the Digital Enterprise Research Institute at NUIG.
