1 Research Associate (m/f) - SAS2010-10 -

The research group “Terrestrial Remote Sensing” in the Land Department of MPI-M carries out fundamental research to observe surface climate dynamics at multiple time scales and use that information for the evaluation of climate models. The assimilation of the observational data into climate models is a further aspect of the research.

The successful candidate will work on the analysis and the integration of new long term remote sensing based data sets into climate models with a specific focus on the land surface. The work will be conducted in close collaboration with the newly established MPI-M fellowship group on “Fire in the Earth System” and is part of a joint project between MPI-M, UK MetOffice, MeteoFrance and ECMWF. The project is funded by the European Space Agency (ESA) as part of their climate change initiative (CCI). The candidate will be responsible for the analysis and integration of new climate datasets into the MPI-M Earth system model and the analysis of its impact on model performance.
