Germany : PhD position in plant pathology-ecology

The groups Pathology of Woody Plants and Ecophysiology of Plants at the Department of Ecology and Ecosystem Management at the Technische Universität München seek a

PhD student in plant pathology/ecology or related disciplines.

Responsibilities
The DFG funded Project “TrophInOak” offers a Joint Experimental Platform with mycorrhizal oak microcuttings to investigate different types of biotrophic interactions in clonal oak trees. The successful candidate will combine ecological and molecular techniques to study the dynamic interaction of oak microcuttings with the root pathogen Phytophthora quercina. Tracer experiments with stable C and N isotopes will be coupled with histological and transcriptomical analyses.

Requirements
Dynamic and motivated student holding a master or diploma degree in biology or related disciplines. Interest in innovative combinations of molecular and ecophysiological techniques required. Fluent language in English or German and driving license required.

Additional benefits
The research will be carried out within a 3-year project (approval of third year is pending). We offer an interesting position in a team of 6 PhD students investigating different biotrophic interactions in oak (www.TrophInOak.de). The position is situated at a lively university environment at the Center of Food and Life Science Weihenstephan of the Technische Universität München (www.wzw.tum.de). Salary will be according to the appropriate civil service level E13 (50%, TV-L). An application to upgrade to 65% is pending.
