Denmark : 3-years Postdoc Position in Molecular Cell Biology, Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen

Sponsored Links

In the Section Cell and Developmental Biology a full time postdoc position is open for the period of 3 years starting 1st of August 2010. The project is financed by a grant from the Forskningsrådet for Sundhed og Sygdom given to a group of scientist in the Section.

Position
The position is connected to a project entitled:
Neuronal regulation of serum osmolarity - project part: The role of calmodulin in the regulation of  the TRPV4 channel.

Members of the Transient Receptor Potential (TRP) vanilloid channel family have been suggested as osmosensors in special regions in the brain. The proposed project will mainly focus on the TRPV4 channel as a primary sensor/modulator of the neuronal activity of the omolarity sensing brain region. Part of the project, to be carried out in the laboratory of Martin Berchtold at the Biocenter deals with the regulation of TRPV4 by Calmodulin (CaM). As TRPV4 has been proposed to be regulated by CaM a main goal is to study this regulation in a genetic model system (chicken DT-40 cell line) established in our laboratory. We will construct DT-40 clones (with adjustable CaM expression) stably expressing TRPV4 in wt and mutant form. This will be followed by analysing osmoregulation, cell volume regulation and TRPV4 channel activity using patch clamp methods in close collaboration with the group of Else Hoffmann at our section. The project also includes analysis of the molecular nature of the interaction between CaM and TRPV4, as well as analysis of the downstream signaling following Ca 2+ /CaM dependent TRPV4 channel activity.

Qualification:
The candidate for this position should have a PhD and profound knowledge in molecular biology, cell biology and preferably also in cell signaling and protein interaction analysis.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State. For post docs salary is based on seniority and between 383.670 and 407.006 DKK and an annual supplement up to DKK 49.280 before pension contribution. Negotiation for further supplement will be possible.
