KTH is the largest technical university in Sweden. Education and research cover a broad spectrum within natural sciences and engineering, as well as architecture, industrial engineering and management, urban planning, work science and environmental engineering. KTH has 6,955 full-time equivalent students at Bachelor (first) level, 5,545 at Master (second) level, 1,314 at doctoral studies (third) level and 3,900 employees.

The School of Electrical Engineering conducts research and education in the fields of electrical engineering, systems engineering, information and communications theory, space and fusion plasma physics, and electrical power engineering. 300 people work in this creative and dynamic environment, out of which half are Ph.D. students, many from other countries. Our research projects are carried out in close collaboration with industry partners as well as with research colleagues from Sweden and other countries. The school is responsible for educating civil engineers in electrical engineering and five masters programs which are in great demand and which have a close connection to our main fields.

The scientific and technical activities of the Division of Electric Power Systems cover development and application of methods for analysis, simulation, and control of electric and integrated energy systems. The research activities in this division are divided into three subject areas, namely, power system dynamics and control, electricity markets and production planning, and power system network planning.

Description

The primary objective of this position is to develop simulation models and control strategies for large scale introduction of solar power in distribution grids and to analyze their impact on power system performance. The position also includes supervision of Master’s final degree projects, cooperation with a PhD student in the same area and teaching.

The postdoctoral position is part of the research program “PV ERA NET project SmoothPV” which is a joint project between KTH (Sweden), Energynautics GmbH and Institute for Energy Economics (Germany), Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy, Technical University of Denmark (Denmark) and Eindhoven University of Technology (Netherlands). The aims and objectives of this research program are: Development of advanced modeling and simulation tools to evaluate the impact of a large-scale penetration of PV on the optimum economical design/operation of the distribution and transmission networks. Thus, the candidate will be working in close contact with the other partners.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess a PhD in Electrical Engineering with a strong background in power system simulation and control. Knowledge in the areas of power electronics, optimization and/or protection systems is of high value Furthermore, excellent oral and written communication skills in English are required.

We look for a highly motivated and open-minded researcher able to prosper in a multicultural environment. Work experience (even prior to the Ph.D.) can be an asset.

To address its varied work, KTH aims to employ a diversity of talent and thus welcomes applicants who will add to the variety of the University, especially as concerns its gender structure.
