Denmark : 2 PhD fellows in Molecular Imaging and Radiotherapy in Comparative Oncology

The research School for Specialized Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics (KLINIK) wishes to appoint two PhD fellows in comparative oncology for 3 years from October 1st 2010 or soon thereafter.
 
This call is a joint initiative, co-financed by the Faculty of Life Sciences (LIFE), University of Copenhagen (KU), the Danish Agency for Science, Technology and Innovation, Cluster of Molecular Imaging and the Department of Radiotherapy, University of Copenhagen, Rigshospitalet, to promote innovative research and training in comparative oncology.
 
The successful applicants will enrol within the Graduate School, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Copenhagen, under the auspices of the Research School, (www.klinik.life.ku.dk). KLINIK administers a special study programme for PhD fellows with projects within companion animal research. At LIFE the fellowship supports the LIFE strategic research initiative SHARE - Synergy in Human and Animal Research.
 
The primary working place will be at the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences.
 
Job description
With reference to the principal supervisor, the work of the PhD fellows will mainly consist of duties in connection with research and development within companion animal clinical sciences.
The main objective will be for the first project;
"Imaging and prediction of response to therapy (multimodiality) in dogs with cancer as a translational model of human disease", to characterize the imaging of biomarkers in canine cancer and for the second project;
"Radiotherapy of dogs with cancer as a translational model of human disease", to investigate the outcome of image modulated radiotherapy in these cancers.
 
Qualification requirements
In connection with the appointment to the posts, special importance will be attached to the applicants having the professional and personal qualifications stated below:
  • Candidate degree  in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Medicine (MD)
  • Interest in oncology
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluent in a Nordic language and English
 
The PhD fellows are also required to have research potential, to be enterprising and to possess good interpersonal skills.
 
Terms of employment
The post will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The post is covered by the Protocol on Job Structure.
 
The position as PhD fellow requires the applicant to be approved for admission to the PhD programme at LIFE when accepted for the post.

The application should be submitted in 2 (sorted) copies; therefore it´s not possible to receive the application by e-mail. The application must include a reply e-mail address. Each application must include the following appendices marked with the stated appendix numbers:
 
Appendix 1: curriculum vitae with documentation of education.
Appendix 2: material required for expert assessment.
 
In addition to the material the applicant wishes to be included in the assessment, the Assessment Committee may include further material in their assessment of the applicant. In such circumstances, it is the responsibility of the applicant, on request, to send the material to the Committee.
 
Following processing of the application, any application material sent will be destroyed.
 
Receipt of the application will not be acknowledged, but the applicant will be kept continuously informed of the progress of the application.
 
The applicant will be assessed according to the Ministry of Science Technology and Innovation Executive Order no 284 of 25. April 2008.
