UK : PhD position in optimal design of wind turbine blades

Applications are invited for a 3-year PhD position in optimal design of wind turbine blades at the Department of Mathematics starting around 15 December 2010.

The scope of the PhD project is to develop and analyze advanced models and optimization methods applicable to optimal design of wind turbine blades. The work will be carried out at DTU Mathematics in collaboration with the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Aalborg University. The PhD project is part of the Danish Centre for Composite Structures and Materials for Wind Turbines (DCCSM).

DCCSM

DCCSM is funded by the Danish Council for Strategic Research and runs from 2010 until 2017. DCCSM is coordinated by Risø DTU and consists of ten academic and industrial partners. For further information regarding DCCSM, please visit www.dccsm.dk.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a master’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics or engineering or equivalent academic qualifications. The candidate should have demonstrated qualifications within numerical and theoretical optimization, functional analysis, and preferably also numerical analysis or computational mechanics.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general DTU degree programmes. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years
