Denmark : Postdoc Position in Molecular Biology at the University of Copenhagen

Sponsored Links

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Fellow/Assistant Research Professor with a solid background in cell culture and the heterologous expression of cell membrane proteins, such as GPCRs. Furthermore, he/she should be an experienced molecular biologist and be familiar with basic bioinformatics or genomics.

The position will be available for initially three years. Successful candidates from abroad have the possibility for paying a reduced tax rate (25%) in Denmark for the first three years.

Arthropods (insects, ticks) can transmit serious human diseases such as malaria, elephantiasis, sleeping sickness, Dengue fever, yellow fever, Chagas disease, lyme disease, and many others. Neuropeptide GPCRs play a central role in the physiology of arthropods and are “drugable” proteins (nearly 50% of all human medical drugs act on GPCRs). We are currently expressing arthropod neuropeptide GPCRs in CHO and HEK cells and characterizing (deorphanizing) them using neuropeptide libraries. Our program will, therefore, identify new, insect-specific “drug-targets”. We are also involved in the annotations of a large number of newly sequenced arthropod genomes, where we focus on the neurobiology of these animals (Science 327: 343-348; Nature 452: 949-955; Nature 443: 931-949).

We have modern, well-equipped laboratories at our Center for Functional and Comparative Insect Genomics, Department of Biology, which is located near the center of Copenhagen. Copenhagen is one of the most beautiful cities in Northern Europe with numerous parks and is located close to the sea with beaches in biking distance.

Please send your application with CV, research experiences and publication list to Professor Cornelis Grimmelikhuijzen,
cgrimmelikhuijzen@bio.ku.dk before 01 September 2010, who also can be contacted for further information (0045-35321227).
