4 positions in the Centre for Infection Biology on the PhD program-DEWIN

The Center for Infection Biology (ZIB) is a joint co-operation between Hannover Medical School, the University of Veterinary Medicine Hannover, Foundation, the University of Hannover and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in Braunschweig, and invites applications for PhD studentships to commence in October 2010.

The three-year study program, taught in English, is aimed at post-graduates in Medicine and/or Life Science fields. Students enrolled in the PhD Program work on a three-year research project and attend seminars, congresses, as well as lab courses. Students are encouraged and supported by a network of supervisors and support teams and finish the program after the PhD examination at the end of the third year as highly qualified scientists. Upon graduation, students are awarded a PhD – life scientists may alternatively choose a Dr. rer. nat.

Full funding for every student is to be provided by way of a stipend.

Research and teaching concentrate on the complex interaction of the pathogen (Bacteriology, Virology, Mycology, Parasitology) and the host (Immunology, Cell Biology and Infection Medicine). Structural Biology as well as Bioinformatics are additional subjects which can be taken as part of the program.

We are looking for highly motivated candidates with a background in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine or the Life Sciences who have an active interest in the above field. Excellent written and spoken English skills are required. With nearly half of our students coming from outside Germany, international applicants are welcome.
