Germany : PhD position (Cottbus, Germany)
For the project ELKE (www.landnutzungsstrategie.de) the Chair of Soil Protection and Recultivation (Brandenburg University of Technology) is looking for a Ph.D. student (m/f) within environmental sciences.
We offer a Ph.D. position studying the determination and quantification of the below-ground biomass in agroforestry systems.
A considerable amount of carbon is accumulated in the below-ground biomass of trees in agroforestry systems. The carbon sequestration should be quantitatively determined and suitable methods for the practical estimation of the root biomass should be investigated and refined. In addition, root systems of agroforestry systems at the border between trees and crops should be investigated and assessed.
We expect from the candidate a Masters degree or equivalent University degree in crop science, biology or a related environmental fields and a pronounced interest in scientific work.
The position will be available starting from October 1st, 2010 for the duration of 2 years (extension is possible).
