The Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology is pleased to announce postdoctoral research opportunities through its recently founded Klaus Hasselmann Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. In addition to the salary the fellowship provides each fellow with a modest budget to use at their discretion, support for relocation expenses, as well as full access to the breadth of human, numerical, observa-tional, and computational resources available at one of the world's premier laboratories for climate research.

Each year one fellowship will be awarded in one of three general areas of Earth system modelling: land-surface & terrestrial biosphere interactions; ocean science; atmospheric science. The 2011 Fellowship will be awarded in the general area of ocean science and will be hosted by the Department "The Ocean in the Earth System" directed by Professor Jochem Marotzke (for further information: jochem.marotzke(at)zmaw.de).

Klaus Hasselmann Fellows are expected to pursue independent research and will be selected on the strength of their scholarship.
