Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:

PhD position in Engineering Science with specialisation in Solid State Physics

at the Ångström Laboratory, Department of Engineering Sciences, Division of Solid State Physics. Starting date: as soon as possible.

The department for Engineering Sciences, the division of Solid State Physics, announces a position as PhD student within the field of experimental magnetism.

The research of the position concerns experimental studies of magnetic materials focused on static and dynamic macroscopic properties of model materials and materials of interest for technological applications, e.g. spintronics applications. The model material could be a functional magnetic material, a material with naturally or artificially constrained spatial or spin dimensionality or even a self-assembled three-dimensional superlattice consisting of monodisperse magnetic nanocrystals. Dynamic magnetic properties can imply slow (relaxation) or fast (resonance) spin dynamics. The activities are to be based on the experimental equipment for magnetic characterisation available at the host research group (http://www2.angstrom.uu.se/magnetism/) and close collaboration with other research groups within and outside the Ångström Laboratory for material fabrication, complementary characterisation and interpretation of the results.

The successful candidate should have a master of science in engineering physics, material science or equivalent. Good skills in oral and written English are required.
