The Biochemical Institute at the University of Giessen announces a PhD student position

available December 1, 2010.

In the frame of the international research training group PROMISE (GK 1566 Protecting the Heart from Ischemia) which is organized jointly between Giessen (Germany) and Barcelona (Spain), this project will investigate the molecular processes mediating ischemia/reperfusion (I/P)- and TGFbeta-triggered cell death of cardiomyocytes. The relative contribution of the cell death regulating proteins HIPK2 and PML protein for apoptosis and necrosis of cardiomyocytes will be revealed by gain-of-function and loss-of-function approaches including delivery of shRNAs, small molecule inhibitors and peptide-mediated inhibition of protein/protein interactions.

The Institute (http://www.uniklinikum-giessen.de/bio/) offers the opportunity to work in an interactive and dynamic setting and is well equipped. The DFG-funded position is available for 2 years with one year extension. The group is active in competitive research (for recent papers, see Calzado et al.
