Germany : Three Ph.D.students at Faculty of Chemistry and Life Sciences-KIT

At the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Faculty of Chemistry and Life Sciences, three Ph.D.student (TV-L) positions are available from October 2010 at the Zoological Institute, Cell and Developmental Biology.


The projects cover the following themes:
1.Regulation of neural crest migration; DFG funded project. Literature: Kashef et al. Genes & Dev 2009.

2.Cell migration in gastrulation controlled by different Wnt-signalling pathways; funded by the DFG-research program FOR1036 (

http://www.wnt.uni-hd.de/Main_page.html). Literature: Schambony & Wedlich, Dev. Cell 2007, Hammerschmidt & Wedlich, Development 2008.

3.Structuring and chemical functionalisation of surfaces to manipulate cell differentiation; funded in the DFG-Cluster of Excellence: Center for Functional Nanostructures, CFN. Literature: Kalinina et a. Biomaterials 2008, Montero-Pancera et al. Langmuir 2010, Engin et al. Langmuir 2010.

Candidates should have finished a master degree in biology/ biochemistry and in case of project 3 (CFN) in chemistry or chemical biology. Applicants should be highly motivated and experienced in molecular and cell biological techniques. For project 3, experience in surface chemistry is an advantage.
