Australia : PHD in neuropsychology

This opportunity is embedded within a NHRMC-funded project that aims to identify genetic variation underlying differential gene expression in a large Australian schizophrenia case-control sample.

We aim to study a subset of individuals with schizophrenia (n=~30) who have documented copy number variations (CNVs) based on genomewide association findings. We will compare these individuals with two control groups (individuals with schizophrenia who do not have CNVs (n=~100) and healthy controls (n=~100)) on neuropsychological (CANTAB subset), neuroimaging (structural, DTI, functional), and genetic variables. Thereby, we aim to be the first group to characterize the effect of CNVs on brain structure and function in schizophrenia. The successful PhD applicant will be involved in the neuropsychological and neuroimaging profiling of these cohorts. This component study will be part of a larger genetic study in which we plan to conduct genomewide association and gene expression studies in order to identify genetic variants associated with schizophrenia-related differences in gene expression.
