The successful candidate will work with parameter-free atomistic modeling of materials for clean energy applications, with special focus on interfaces in devices.

More specifically, you will theoretically analyze the physics of novel semiconductor oxides that will be used in next-generation thermoelectric and photovoltaic applications. The research involves studies on bulk compounds as well as interfaces between two materials, using state-of-the-art computer program packages and national supercomputer resources. You will work in an open-minded and creative research environment, and the studies will be performed closely together with the experimentalists at our department and also with international research groups.

A required prerequisite for applying is completed master courses in solid state physics and basic quantum mechanics (or corresponding qualifications). Knowledge of atomistic modelling or simulation of materials is an advantage, though this is not a necessary requirement.

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree.

The fellowship requires admission to the research training programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. An approved plan for the research training, including a project outline, must be submitted no later than two months after taking up the position, and the admission must be approved within three months.
