Norway : Post-Doctor Researcher in Computational Chemistry

Sponsored Links

One postdoctoral research fellow/researcher position in computational chemistry/physics, financed by the Norwegian Research Council through the project Design of Efficient Solar Energy Materials from Theory (DESEMAT) is available at the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN), University of Oslo.

The positions are for a fixed-term, with an appointment period of maximum three years.

Job description:

The main objective is to enhance the fundamental insight into physical properties of optoelectronic materials for next generation solar cells by means of state-of-the-art density functional calculations. The project will address: (i) improved and novel transparent conducting oxides; (ii) band-gap engineering; (iii) variable band gap multijunction solar cells; (iv) defect engineering to optimize properties.

All work time will be allocated to research, research-related activities and research administration. A completed doctoral degree is a prerequisite for appointment. The successful candidate will work in a larger environment with researchers in theory and modeling, and will as well interact closely with researchers within experimental studies of oxide semiconductors and synthesis of model materials and thin films. The successful candidates must show good abilities to collaborate and take on tasks for the benefit of the research group. The appointment is under condition that the contract between the partners is signed.

The main purpose of post-doctoral research fellowships is to qualify researchers for work in higher academic positions within their disciplines.

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian PhD/doctoral degree. Candidates who have already been employed as Post Doc will be employed as Researcher.

The successful candidate must document expertise within computational materials science on scientific issues of relevance for oxides, defects, electronic structure and physical properties, preferably optoelectronic properties. The candidates should further hold documented knowledge on state-of-the-art software for computational materials science, and also competence on programming in languages like e.g. Fortran and C+. Experience in maintaining computer systems and networks is desired.

Personal suitability and co-operation skills will receive special attention in the selection process. Applicants may be called in for an interview.

An expert committee will evaluate the applications. The committee will put emphasis on the scientific papers (including the PhD thesis) submitted by the applicants. Information and materials that are to be considered must be submitted within the deadline.

Salary:

Post code, 1352/1109, pay grade: 57 – 64 (NOK 455.900 – 518.800 depending on qualifications and seniority)

The application must include:

  •  Application letter (including the motivation for applying for this position)
  •  CV (summarizing education, positions and academic work)
  •  Copies of educational certificates, letters of recommendation
  •  List of publications and academic work that the applicant wishes to be considered by the evaluation committee
  •  Names and contact details of 2-3 references (name, relation to candidate, e-mail and telephone number)

Foreign applicants are advised to attach an explanation of their University’s grading system. All documents should be in English or in a Scandinavian language.

The University of Oslo has an agreement for all employees, aiming to secure rights to research results a.o.

In accordance with the University of Oslo´s equal opportunity policy, we invite applications from all individuals regardless of gender or ethnicity.
