Norway : PhD Research Fellow at Department of Immunology and Transfusion Medicine

Sponsored Links

The position (Code 1017) is located to the Department of Immunology and Transfusion Medicine, which is a part of the Faculty of Medicine, the Institute of Clinical Medicine at the Clinic for Diagnostics and Intervention.

The project manager is Professor Bjarne Bogen, head of a research group located to the CoE (Center of Excellence) Center for Immune Regulation. The research group has broad expertice in immunological research. Infrastructure and equipment are up to date.

The purpose of this particular project is to develop an universal influenza vaccine. As of today, Bogen and co-workers have developed a vaccine format where antigen is targeted directly to various immune cells, a concept that significantly increases vaccine efficiency. The experiments of this project will be performed in a mouse influenza model and with virus hemagglutinin as antigen. The PhD candidate will construct a vaccine containing only a conserved part of hemagglutinin. There is reason to believe that such a vaccine can induce antibodies against all influenza viruses and thereby function as an universal influenza vaccine. The vaccine will be tested in mice for efficacy and potential cross protection against different influenza viruses.

The fellowship period is 3 years and devoted to carrying out a project entitled “A novel influenza vaccine that protect against influenza year after year”. The fellowship period may be reduced within the framework of pertaining regulations based on previously held research fellowship positions.

The purpose of the fellowship is research training leading to the successful completion of a PhD degree and requires admission to the research training programme at the Faculty of Medicine.
