Denmark : PhD in Regulatory Genomics

Sponsored Links

A three-year PhD position is available in the Regulatory Genomics group at the Center for Biological Sequence Analysis (CBS). The successful applicant will join a team of researchers working in the “Center for non-coding RNA in Technology and Health” (http://rth.dk) funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council.

Research within the regulatory genomics group at CBS is focused on the relationships between genotype, signaling, gene regulation and phenotype. The group consists of both biologists and computational researchers. Our research objectives relate to understanding the genetic basis for the differences in gene regulation and subsequent response to changing environmental conditions in different strains, cell lines or individual organisms. Data analysis and integration across diverse high-throughput data sources (e.g. genotypes, gene expression, protein expression, post-translational modification) is of a high importance. In addition, development of new computational and statistical methods for mining and exploiting systematic data resources are of interest.

The Center for Biological Sequence Analysis is focused on research in bioinformatics and systems biology and employs a staff of >100 with a highly multi-disciplinary background (molecular biologists, biochemists, medical doctors, physicists, computer scientists, and technical staff). The center represents one of the largest academic bioinformatics and systems biology groups in Europe.

Qualifications
The candidate should have a background in biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, computer science or similar subjects and an interest in working in a highly interdisciplinary and international setting. Interest in both the biological and computational aspects of modeling is essential. Skills in managing or developing bioinformatics infrastructure are highly desirable. Experience with modeling biological processes (e.g. cell signaling, metabolism, cell cycle) and analysis of high-throughput data sets is also desirable.

The project will relate to developing models of RNA-protein interactions. Currently available experimental data on protein-RNA complexes, computational machine-learning methods, and experimental techniques for in vivo analysis of protein-RNA interactions, has enabled the investigation of protein-RNA interactions, their specificity and affinity. Aims of the project relate to understanding the function of different RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) and their target RNAs in post-transcriptional gene regulation.

Approval and Enrolment
The scholarships for the PhD degree are subject to academic approval, and the candidates will be enrolled in one of the general degree programmes of DTU. For information about the general requirements for enrolment and the general planning of the scholarship studies, please see the
DTU PhD Guide.

Salary and appointment terms
The salary and appointment terms are consistent with the current rules for PhD degree students. The period of employment is 3 years.
