OPENING OF THE SELECTIVE PROCESS FOR A POSTDOCTORATE IN OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY WITH A FAPESP FELLOWSHIP

 

The thematic project "Profile of Viral Infections in Chronic Diseases of the Upper Respiratory Tract: Adenotonsillar Hypertrophy, Secretory Otitis Media and Rhinosinusitis" supported by FAPESP has an open postdoctoral position with a FAPESP fellowship for registration and later selection.

 1. REGISTRATION

Registration will have to be exclusively by e-mail, with the documentation attached as a PDF file and addressed to Prof. Dr. Wilma T. Anselmo-Lima wtalima@fmrp.usp.br, Coordinator of the Thematic Project, by September 9, 2011.

 2. POSITION

The position is open to Brazilians and to foreigners. The opportunity is inserted in the Thematic Project "Profile of Viral Infections in Chronic Diseases of the Upper Respiratory Tract: Adenotonsillar Hypertrophy, Secretory Otitis Media and Rhinosinusitis" whose objective is to detect and quantitate the major respiratory viruses (HRV, HRSV, HEV, HMPV, FLU, HPIV, HCoV, HAdV, and HBoV) by real time PCR (Taqman system – Applied) in nasal lavage and in lavage of the facial sinuses of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Specifically for this position, the fellow will have to carry out research in the subproject “Role of viral infections in chronic rhinosinusitis: profile of induced cytokines and bacterial association” in order to characterize the presence of bacteria and viruses in patients with CRS, and to establish the cytokine profile by full-time PCR in biopsies collected from the maxillary sinus.

 3. REQUIREMENTS OF THE APPLICANT FOR THE FELLOWSHIP

The applicant approved as the recipient of a FAPESP fellowship will have to satisfy the following requirements:

a)   Medical degree, residency in the specialty of Otorhinolaryngology with emphasis on rhinology, and Doctorate in the same area;

b) To have obtained his/her doctorate a maximum of 5 (five) years ago;

c)   To have his/her Doctoral diploma or the minutes of defense, or of a corresponding declaration;

d) To have a curriculum that demonstrates qualification for working on the project;

e)   To have proven experience, with papers published or in press in the area and the target group of the subproject;

f)   To have proven experience in molecular biology and virology techniques;

g) Fluency in the English language;

h) Full and exclusive dedication to the activities of the project;

i)   To have no employment or statutory status during the project;

j)   Not to be retired;

k) To have experience of training abroad (for Brazilian applicants);

l)   To be ready to start the activities related to the Project as soon as his/her application is approved by FAPESP;

m)        To have the ability to organize research tasks in an independent manner;

n) To have the ability to coordinate classes and discussions at the postdoctoral level in the area of otorhinolaryngology and to help supervise undergraduate and graduate students.

 4. DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED FOR REGISTRATION

When registering by e-mail the candidate will have to present: a) Updated Curriculum. b) Two letters of recommendation by professionals in the area; c) A short report (a maximum of two pages) of his/her professional experience and motivation about the function.

 5. SELECTION

The fellow will be selected in two stages: a) Analysis of the documentation received; b) Evaluation of the curriculum of qualified candidates.

 6. RESULT

The result will be sent by e-mail starting September 15, 2011.

 7. FELLOWSHIP

The selected candidate will receive financial support from FAPESP in the form of a postdoctoral fellowship (R$ 5,333.40) with the duration of 22 months, Technical Reserve and Installation Aid. The Technical Reserve of the Postdoctoral Fellowship corresponds to 15% of the annual values of the fellowship and its objective is to cover unforeseen expenses directly related to the research activity. If the postdoctoral fellow resides outside the city where the host research institution is located and needs to move to this city, he may have the right to Installation Aid. 8. BEGINNING OF THE ACTIVITIES

The selected applicant will have to be ready to start the activities as soon as his/her application is approved by FAPESP.

 9. GENERAL PROVISIONS

Cases that do not obey the dispositions of this announcement will be decided by the coordinator of the Thematic Project according to the rules established by FAPESP
