Norway : PhD Research Fellowship on International Financial Market Regulation

A four or three year post as PhD Research Fellow is available at the University of Oslo, Faculty of Law, Department of Private Law (http://www.jus.uio.no/ifp/english/). The Faculty of Law is the leading and larger educational and research institution in law in Norway, with some 90 PhD students. 

The post is funded by the Financal Market Fund (under the Norwegian Research Council) and the Research Fellow will take part in a project on ’International Financial Market Regulation: Institutions and Effectiveness’. The main activities of the Research Fellow will be research on his or her dissertation which will be supervised by the director of the project and guided by the steering committee of the project.

Applicants are asked to submit a proposal of 5-10 pages outlining the research issues the applicant would wish to pursue in a PhD dissertation, within the range of topics determined by the project on ’International Financial Market Regulation: Institutions and Effectiveness’ and comment upon issues of theory and method. The Research Fellowship is for a period of up to four years, with teaching constituting 25% of the workload. Alternatively it is for three years without any teaching duties.

The selected candidate will automatically be admitted to the faculty’s approved PhD programme.

Requirements

  • Applicants must hold a degree at Master’s level, or equivalent, in law or relevant social sciences showing suitability for research and demonstrate interest in the field of financial market regulation.
  • The candidate's grades, the project description, and the applicant's personal qualifications will be taken into consideration in the evaluation of the applications. Applicants may be called for an interview.

The application should include

  • A letter of application, nominating three referees with their contact details.
  • Detailed project proposal (5-10 pages)
  • Curriculum vitae with documentation of education and, if any, former positions and academic work.
  • Certified copies of certificates and diplomas must be provided in the original language as well as in English or a Scandinavian translation.
  • Up to three scholarly publications (applicants may be successful without any previous publications).

Foreign applicants are advised to attach an explanation of their University grading system. Please remember that all documents should be in English or a Scandinavian language.
