Netherlands : Postdoc in Multi-Object Spectroscopy on the E-ELT

This postdoc position is intended to perform astronomical and technical trade-offs for E-ELT instrumentation in general and OPTIMOS-EVE in particular, in preparation for phase B. The functional description is comparable to that of instrument scientist. The postdoc should be the NL liaison for the ESO E-ELT project office and carry out simulations in support of the E-ELT and OPTIMOS-EVE science case, in collaboration with Eline Tolstoy, Scott Trager, Marc Verheijen (Groningen), and Paul Groot (Nijmegen). Important technical aspects relate to the fiber coupling into the spectrograph, sky-background correction, the application of dichroics, and the use of VPH gratings.

Requirements

Successful applicants should have a PhD in astronomy, or equivalent, and affinity with instrumentation.

Appointment

We offer an appointment for 38 hours per week for three years in the research group of Prof. Lex Kaper (Massive stars: on their formation, evolution and fate). The salary is in accordance with the university regulations for academic personnel and will range from €2,379 to €3,755 gross per month (salary scale 10) based on a full-time appointment. The annual salary will be increased by an 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities is applicable.
