A PhD Research Fellowship position is available at the Department of Physics. The appointment has duration of 3 years, but can be prolonged after agreed upon by the Department with one year to execute teaching duties.

The position is organized at the Department of Physics. Currently, there are 26 professors, 10 associate professors, 6 adjunct professors, 70 PhD research fellows and 25 postdoctoral positions appointed at the Department of Physics.

The current research fields at the Department includes optics, energy and environmental physics, didactic physics, biophysics and medical technology, condensed matter physics, complex matter physics, surface science, nanotechnology and theoretical physics. Further information is available at: http://www.ntnu.no/fysikk/english

The successful applicant is a highly motivated and ambitious student with very good grades and a Master of Science in physics. A background in experimental physics in the direction of soft and complex matter physics is preferable.

The candidate will experimentally investigate the interactions of CO2 fluids (gas or liquid) with materials relevant for CO2 capture and sequestration, in particular synthetic or natural clays. The experiments will involve use of (synchrotron) X-ray scattering techniques, neutron scattering, rheometry as well as other techniques commonly used in soft matter physics studies. Investigations of CO2 migration in relevant porous structures are also part of the studies. The work is within a project named “Sorption and Migration of CO2 in Porous Media”, granted by the Research Council of Norway, CLIMIT Program. Within this project, the student will join a national Norwegian team of senior and junior investigators located at the Physics Departments of NTNU and University of Oslo, and at the Institute for Energytechnology, respectively (Link: www.complexphysics.org ). Locally at NTNU, the team at the moment consists of a number of MSc students, 3-4 PhD students, 1 Post doctor and 2 Professors.

The regulations for PhD programme at NTNU state that a Master degree or equivalent with at least 5 years of studies and an average grade of A or B within a scale of A-E for passing grades (A best) for the two last years of the MSc and C or better of the BSc is required. Candidates from universities outside Norway are kindly requested to send a Diploma Supplement or a similar document, which describes in detail the study and grade system and the rights for further studies associated with the obtained degree:
