Sweden : PhD position in Condensed Matter Theory

Uppsala University hereby declares the following position to be open for application:

PhD position in Condensed Matter Theory

at the Department of Physics and Astronomy. Starting date: January 2012. Research division: Materials theory.

The successful applicant will work on topological insulators and graphene, which have emerged as two of today’s most actively studied materials. Of special interest are superconducting hybrid structures, including Majorana fermion creation in topological insulators, as well as the influence of defects and impurities in these materials. The applicant is expected to use both analytical and numerical methods. In addition, the Division of Materials theory is also a world-class research environment in ab-initio computational research on materials properties which will provide excellent opportunities for such research tasks.

The position will start earliest January 2012. The PhD position is for four years. Further information is available at http://www.physics.uu.se/.

The applicant is expected to have a Master’s degree in physics, or equivalent. The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, and a verified list of course grades. If available, a Master’s thesis (finished or in draft form) can also be included. Also two letters of recommendation should be included in the application.
