Early stage researcher (PhD student) in Engineering (m/f)

Theme:

Phased-array antennas with dielectric phase shifters
Phased-array antennas consist of antenna arrays where the phase excitation of each element can be individually controlled. This allows the orientation of the antenna beam in any desired direction without mechanical motion of the antenna.
The aim of this PhD thesis is the investigation of an economic and mechanically robust approach to control the phase shift of each element in an antenna array. The method makes use of the dependence of the phase velocity in a microwave line on the presence of a dielectric material. The goal of the work is the development of phased-array antennas where the phase shifts of the individual elements are controlled by adequately designed dielectric plates.

Mission:

• Prepare a doctoral thesis in Engineering
• Assist the professor in his teaching activities
• Contribute to tutoring students.

Profile:

• Diploma or Master in Electrical engineering or physics or equivalent
• Knowledge in microwave electronics 
• Experience in microwave circuit design are an advantage 
• Fluency in German, good command of English
