Sweden : PhD position at the division of Vascularbiology

The aim of this project is to educate a student in systems biological approaches to the common complex disease, coronary artery disease (CAD) the main cause of myocardial infarction (MI). This will include examining the functional roles of inherited risk loci linked to CAD/MI in genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and to infer biological networks underlying CAD. The proposal builds on the international forefront of systems analysis know-how to reveal biological networks underlying complex diseases and a truly unique and recently generated database consisting of >600 genome-wide DNA variation and global gene expression profiles from multiple CAD-relevant tissues isolated from well-characterized CAD patients (the STAGE database).

The PhD project is planned to last four years.

To qualify, the applicant must hold a master’s degree in systems biology or computational biology. Prior experience of genome-wide genomic data analysis is preferable particularly gene network inference. Knowledge of programing using Matlab or C++ is desirable.

The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. Fluency in English is a requirement.
