Netherlands : Two PhD students Non-native Acquisition of Grammar

As a PhD student you will conduct research on nonnative acquisition of grammar (e.g. morphosyntax and its interfaces) in the research group of Prof. Bonnie D. Schwartz, resulting in a dissertation. This newly established group studies the representation, processing and learning of non-native systems (vs. native systems) in adults and children, focusing on language diversity and linguistic theory. It aims to address theoretical issues in non-native language development via a variety of psycholinguistic and neurolinguistic methods in collaboration with partner institutes on campus (Donders and MPI).

Work environment
Radboud University Nijmegen is strategically located in Europe and is one of the leading academic communities in the Netherlands. Established in 1923 and situated in the oldest city of the Netherlands, it has nine faculties and enrolls over 17,500 students in 107 study programmes.

The project will be embedded in the Second Language Acquisition research group at the Centre for Language Studies (CLS), which is part of the Graduate School for Humanities. CLS provides excellent research facilities and high-quality training for PhD students.

What we expect from you
- master’s degree (research master) in Linguistics, Psycholinguistics or Cognitive Neuroscience, or another relevant field;
- broad experience in psycholinguistic research, outstanding methodological and analytical qualities, and experience with collecting and analysing data;
- excellent command of written and spoken English;
- organizational talent, accompanied by independence and perseverance.

What we have to offer
We offer you:
- employment: 0,8 - 1,0 fte;
- a maximum gross monthly salary of € 2,612 based on a 38-hour working week;
- in addition to the salary: an 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus;
- the gross starting salary is € 2,042 per month based on a 38-hour working week and is going up until € 2,612 per month in the fourth year;
- duration of the contract: 3.5 years;
- you will be appointed for an initial period of 18 months, after which your performance will be evaluated. If the evaluation is positive, the contract will be extended by 2 years;
- the positions are immediately available.
