Denmark : PhD Stipend in Design of Mega Food Events Based on Regional Partnerships

At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of Development and Planning, Copenhagen, a PhD stipend is available within the general study programme Planning and Development in the research group Foodscapes, Innovation & Networks (FINe). The stipend is open for appointment from March 1, 2012.

The Department of Development and Planning conducts research and teaching on development and planning in a broad sense, including social science aspects as well as more technical aspects of development, and with a focus on environmental, international as well as administrative dimensions.
        

Job description

The research group FINe wants by this stipend to focus on design processes in the development of mega food events. The PhD project will be integrated in the regional development program for organic and sustainable food currently under development at the Department. In this program major representatives of regional food events are participating: Roskilde Dyrskue, Madkulturen, Roskilde municipality, food events at Musicon and Roskilde Night. The PhD project will be working closely with these event partners.

The overall aim of this PhD project is to develop a new design concept for Roskilde Dyrskue that reflect and communicate the qualities of Danish farmers products and services into modern urban and sub-urban food cultures. The aim is to identify the new food event consumers, to propose new design openings and to assists the partners in the evaluation of the actual implementation of the new designs.

The aim is therefore to understand the present design processes in mega food events as a mean to strengthen, rationalize and consolidate the opening of tomorrows design of food events. The Global scene of experiences in this area, and related areas, is expected to be included when possible and relevant.

PhD stipends are allocated to individuals who hold a Masters degree. PhD stipends are normally for a period of 3 years. It is a prerequisite for allocation of the stipend that the candidate will be enrolled as a PhD student at the Doctoral School of the Faculty of Engineering and Science, in accordance with the regulations of Ministerial Order No. 18 of January 14, 2008 on the PhD Programme at the Universities. According to the Ministerial Order, the progress of the PhD student shall be assessed every six months. It is a prerequisite for continuation of salary payment that the previous progress is approved at the time of the evaluation.

The qualifications of the applicant will be assessed by an assessment committee. On the basis of the recommendation of the assessment committee, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Science will make a decision for allocating the stipend.

Agreement
Appointment and salary as a PhD fellow are according to the Ministry of Finance Circular of October 1, 2008 on the Collective Agreement for Academics in Denmark, Appendix 5, regarding PhD fellows, and with the Ministry of Finance Circular of June 13, 2007 on the employment structure at Danish Universities.
