Karolinska Institutet announces a research scholarship for Postdoctoral studies in Distributed Databases  at Department of Medicine, Solna, Unit for Computational Medicine

Description of the research project/area of research
Medical informatics is one of the active research areas within the unit. Based on Agile software development methodology we have developed T-MedFusion (Translational Medicine Informatics Fusion system) a solution for harmonizing and integrating federated databases created at Karolinska university hospital and Karolinska Institutet. To further develop T-MedFusion, we are now looking for a postdoctoral scientist, with knowledge and experience in developing and implementing very large and distributed databases in a service oriented architecture SOA environment.

The successful applicant will initially work with a group of scientists who already have access to large clinical databases and who wish to integrate these databases with biobanks, Genomics, proteomics, and medical images databases. The successful applicant will be responsible for the design, implementation, testing and deployment of MedFusion (Agile Product Lifecycle Management), the tasks require interaction with clinicians, biomedical and bioinformatics researchers.

The position is located at the Unit for Computational Medicine (www.compmed.se), at the Department of Medicine, Solna, Karolinska Institutet. The Unit is physically located at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) (www.cmm.ki.se) that offers an outstanding research environment in the field of complex disease. We provide an exiting environment and unique team with expertise and ongoing project involving theory, computation and biological experimental analysis.

Qualifications of the applicant
Applications are invited from highly talented and enthusiastic researchers with a PhD degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate (PhD) in computer science or informatics, with documented experience and publications in VLDB and SOA.

The postdoc researcher has an important role in software development at CompMed. You have good understanding of medical informatics and can define user’s requirements and create customized solutions per project. You will work with team to understand and analysis elements of existing systems and databases, but also with the development of entirely new applications.

The candidate must be a flexible, results-oriented problem-solver who requires minimal supervision. Projects can vary greatly from one to the next, so they should thrive on variety and enjoy taking on new challenges. The candidate has expertise of writing scientific papers/reports and is an inter-disciplinary communicater, and problem solver. Good knowledge of spoken and written English is required.

A scholarship for the pursuit of postdoctoral studies may be awarded to a person who comes from a country outside of Sweden, and whose intent is to stay in Sweden for his or her entire, or partial, postdoctoral education.
