Sweden : Doctoral studentship in physical chemistry

The project aims towards understanding of protein-protein interactions, from an bio-colloidal/physical chemistry approach. The PhD project will be part of OMM ?Organizing Molecular Matter?, a Centre of Excellence at the Chemistry Department including Physical Chemistry, Theoretical Chemistry and Biophysical Chemistry. It involves handling and purification of model proteins, studies of their interactions and stability and of construction of phase diagrams. Further, studies and production of genetically modified proteins will also be conducted. In order to study protein interactions a combination of scattering techniques will be used such as static and dynamic light scattering, small-angle X-ray and small-angle neutron scattering.

Eligibility/Entry Requirements

Basic entry requirements for PhD studies are: a degree at advanced level, courses to an extent of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 at advanced level, or corresponding proficiencies aquired in Sweden or elsewhere.

Special requirements for this position: Experience in either light scattering or X-ray scattering (including other relevant scattering techniques) or handling/studies of proteins/biomolecules is highly desirable.

Basis of Assessment

Regulations for employment as a postgraduate student can be found in the Swedish Statute Book (SFS 1998:80). Only those admitted to postgraduate studies can be appointed to such a position. When appointing applicants to such a position, first and foremost their ability to benefit from postgraduate studies must be taken into consideration. In addition to pursuing postgraduate studies, the doctoral student may also perform other duties, including research, teaching and administration, according to the specific regulations
