Sweden : Postdoctoral position in Cellular Neuroscience

A postdoctoral position is available under the supervision of Prof. Staffan Johansson in the Department of Integrative Medical Biology (Physiology Section). The candidate will work with electrophysiological (mainly patch clamp) and/or optical techniques to study synaptic transmission and neuronal excitability in cell/tissue preparations. The research will address the role of ion channels and ion transporters of importance for synaptic plasticity and for conditions of raised excitability, such as in epilepsy and neuropathic pain. Presynaptic ion channels and the control of GABA release as well as the postsynaptic control of excitability via GABA- and/or glycine-gated channels and intracellular ion concentrations should be in focus. The candidate will work in close collaboration with the members of the research team at the laboratory of ion channels and neuronal signalling and is expected to contribute directly to the project design, experimental work and advanced data analysis.

Qualifications:
The applicant must have doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in a relevant discipline (neuroscience/physiology) and not more than three years old. Practical experience with patch-clamp recording and analysis, brain slice preparations, acute dissociation of neurons or similar techniques is required. Special education in bioethics and animal research is considered a merit. It is presupposed that the candidate masters scientific English and have good general communication skills in English (written and verbal). The applicant must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Much focus will be given to the candidate’s potential collaborative skills.
