Colour Printing 7.0: Next Generation Multi-Channel Printing (CP7.0) is a training and research project funded by Marie Curie - Initial Training Networks (ITN). The project will be executed in collaboration with 6 full network partners and 8 associated partners from academia and industry throughout Europe. The project addresses a significant demand for research, training and innovation in the printing industry. In the research project, new methods and models for spectral colour reproduction will be developed, exploring the possibilities of using more than the conventional four colorants in colour printing. The aim is to train a new generation of printing scientists who will be able to assume science and technology leadership in this established technological sector.
Halftoning algorithms and colour prediction models are well defined for conventional colour printing, using four colorants. Adding additional colorants with the aim of reproducing the spectral reflectance of the original will introduce a number of additional challenges to be solved, for the halftoning technology, as well as for the modeling of halftone colour reproduction. The sub project Halftoning and tonal reproduction, carried out at Linköping University, will focus on the development of halftoning algorithms and tonal reproduction models for multi-channel printing. The research will be carried out in collaboration with other researchers from the CP7.0 network, and the PhD student will undertake secondments to other project partners for 5-6 months during the project.
A person employed as a graduate student must primarily engage in postgraduate studies. A graduate student may, however, work limited with education, research and administration. Such work may, before the doctorate was awarded, not exceed 20 percent of full time.

At the time of recruitment, applicants must be in the first four years (full time equivalent) of their research careers, and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree.
The candidate should have a MSc degree (or equivalent) in media technology, computer science, electrical engineering, or other relevant field. The candidate is expected to have a strong background in mathematics and programming, as well as strong analytical and communication skills. Any past experience in related areas, such as colour science, image processing or printing technology will be evaluated positively. Fluency in English is a prerequisite.
Eligible for appointment as a graduate student is only the adoption or one that already has been admitted to graduate studies.
