The Institute of High Energy Physics (HEPHY) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna, Austria, is looking for a Ph.D. student (f/m) with a background (M.Sc., diploma, or equivalent) in high energy physics. Applicants should have experience in data analysis and object-oriented programming. The successful candidate is expected to perform measurements of quarkonium production, in particular polarization, using the existing 8 TeV and forthcoming 13 TeV datasets collected in pp collisions with the CMS detector. The work will be carried out in collaboration with other international research groups. Therefore, good communication skills (English), readiness to travel (e.g. to CERN) and the ability to work in a team are required.
Besides its involvement in quarkonium physics, Higgs physics and searches for supersymmetry with the CMS detector, the institute also has major responsibilities in the tracker and trigger projects in CMS. The institute is moreover participating in the BELLE / BELLE II and CRESST/EURECA collaborations. More information can be found at http://www.hephy.at .
The project is funded by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). The remuneration follows the FWF scheme, amounting to an annual gross salary of EUR 28 348.60 (EUR 2 024.90 per month) for a part time position (30 h/week). The position will be located in Vienna and open for a period of three years. The contract will be issued initially for one year with the prospect of an extension for two more years in the case of mutual satisfaction.
Applications including a CV, a publication list and two recommendation letters should be sent to Ilse Krätschmer (ilse.kratschmer(at)cern.ch). The deadline is September 15th, 2015. For further information please contact Ilse Krätschmer (ilse.kratschmer(at)cern.ch) or Wolfgang Adam (wolfgang.adam(at)cern.ch).
