The University of Luxembourg seeks to hire an outstanding doctoral researcher at its Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT).

SnT is carrying out interdisciplinary research in secure, reliable and trustworthy ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) systems and services, often in collaboration with industrial, governmental or international partners. SnT is active in several international research projects funded by the Horizon2020 programme and the European Space Agency. For further information you may check: www.securityandtrust.lu.

The successful candidate will participate in the activities of the Security and Trust of Software Systems (SaToSS) research group led by Prof. Dr. Sjouke Mauw. The SaToSS group is working on formalising and applying formal reasoning to real-world security problems and trust issues. The research topics of the group include: security protocols, security modeling, formal methods for security, socio-technical aspects of security, risk management, privacy, verification, etc. For further information you may consult: http://satoss.uni.lu/.

Your Role

The focus of the PhD project is privacy in social networks. By integrating techniques from different fields such as machine learning and information security, the project aims at studying privacy issues in social networks including link prediction and attribute inference.

  • The candidate’s main task will consist in contributing to the research within the SaToSS research group and preparing a doctoral dissertation.
  • The candidate will also contribute to teaching and co-supervising master/bachelor students.

Your Profile
  • A master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or related field
  • Experience in machine learning and/or data mining will be considered as an advantage
  • A proven interest in information security and privacy
  • Strong background in mathematics and computer science
  • Commitment, team working, self-motivated and a critical mind
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory
