Doctoral Candidate Position in the Department of Radio Science and Engineering

The Department of Radio Science and Engineering at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering is seeking to hire in the field of terahertz techniques: design, fabrication and measurements of large-area, flexible arrays of elements operating in the terahertz frequency domain. The arrays will be designed for applications as thin-sheet absorbers, conformal antenna arrays, and holographic sheets for beam shaping. The doctoral thesis project will be made in the frame of a research project funded by the Academy of Finland. 



  • Master’s degree in Radio Science and Engineering or a closely related area
  • A good track record in scientific research evidenced by publications in renowned international conferences or scientific journals, and/or a Master’s thesis of outstanding quality
  • Excellent knowledge of electromagnetic theory
  • Practical skills of electromagnetic and antenna simulations
  • Sufficient experience of radio frequency instrumentation and measurements is required.
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative team
  • Good command of English in communication, reporting, and scientific writing is also a necessary prerequisite.

The expected starting salary is 2,295 €/month, and it will increase with performance over time. The contract includes occupational health and social security benefits. The starting date is negotiable, but preferably in January 2016.
