Funded PhD program in economics at Bonn Graduate School of Economics (BGSE), Germany


The BGSE offers a structured doctoral program in economics that is especially designed for highly qualified students who are about to finish their bachelor degree. Of course, master students are also invited to apply.

Research takes place in an inspiring, supportive and intellectually demanding environment.

Scholarships are available. Application deadline is March 31. The program starts once a year in October.

The PhD program at the BGSE consists of a course phase (12 courses up to the 4th semester) and a dissertation phase that already starts in the 3rd semester. During the dissertation phase, students participate in weekly workshops, present their research projects in Bonn and abroad and write the papers that will become part of their thesis.

- On application: 9th semester with workshop and academic job market participation

- Students starting with a master degree receive a monthly grant of € 1103 until the 8th semester.

- Students starting with a bachelor degree receive a monthly grant of € 800 for the first two semesters, followed by a grant of € 1103 until the 8th semester.

* The good standing requirements define the academic goals of each semester. Only students fulfilling the requirements for good standing (which is the vast majority) receive grants.
