There is a temporary position available at the Department of Geography as PhD Candidate in Human Geography for a period of three years. This is an educational position that shall provide a promising research recruit the opportunity for professional development through studies towards a PhD degree. The position is connected to the PhD program at the Faculty of Social Science and Technology Management and the Faculty will be the employer.
About the department
The Department of Geography has at the moment employed 15 scientific positions, 10 PhD-candidates and an administrative staff of 5 persons.

The announced position is set within the following research framework: Exploring culturally diverse perspectives on Norwegian environments. The framework is designed across the strategic areas Environment, resources, management and Mobility, transnationalism, inequality. Drawing on a broad set of competences, four senior members of staff are currently working to design more systematic investigations of an increasingly culturally diverse population and its effect on ideologies and uses of nature. We are interested in better understanding how diverse sets of knowledges and practices shape people’s interactions with urban, peri-urban and rural environments. The PhD candidate represents a key to this work. The requirement for the position is a completed master’s degree in human geography. Applicants must have a strong academic record from their previous studies, and must have a weighted average grade for the last two years of their master's or equivalent education (equivalent to 120 credits) of B or higher in terms of NTNU's grading scale. Applicants with no letter grades from previous studies must have an equally good academic foundation. Applicants who are unable to meet these criteria may be admitted only if they can document that they are particularly suitable candidates for education leading to a PhD degree. Fluent English skills are required.
Personal qualifications such as social skills, independence, creativity, ability to cooperate with and contribute to a research group, and motivation to apply for the position, will be ascribed high importance.
Salary and working conditions
The PhD position is paid according to salary level 50 in the national salary scheme, gross NOK 35 850 per month, of which 2 % is deducted for the State Pension Scheme.
