Job assignments

The holder of the position will be expected to devote his or her time primarily to the completion of the required course work and the completion of a doctoral thesis. However, he or she may also be assigned teaching and research-related duties as well as administrative work according to special provisions in the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance.

If the applicant has already completed coursework in the third cycle, the duration of the doctoral studentship shall be reduced correspondingly.

The successful applicant will be expected to be physically present at the Department and actively interact in the programme environment, which includes active participation in the Department?s third-cycle and research seminars.

The Department's working language is Swedish. Some activities and seminars may be carried out in English. Doctoral theses may be written in Swedish or English. The University offers introductory courses in Swedish on an as-needed basis.


An applicant shall be considered to meet the general entry requirements if he or she has been awarded a second-cycle qualification, has satisfied the requirements for coursework comprising at least 240 higher education credits/ECTS credits of which at least 60 were awarded in the second cycle, or has acquired substantially equivalent knowledge in some other way in Sweden or abroad.

Appointments to doctoral studentships are regulated in the Swedish Code of Statutes SFS 1998:80. Only a person admitted to a third-cycle programme may be considered for appointment. Assessment of applicants will primarily be based on the candidate?s predicted ability to benefit from the programme.

The recruitment process may include interviews.
