IT University of Copenhagen (ITU) invites applications for a number
of PhD scholarships starting in February 2010 in any of the faculty
groups represented at ITU.

FIRST Research School: theoretical computer science and fundamental software technologies, sensornets, databases, algorithms for large amounts of data, automated reasoning, business processes, category theory, complexity, concurrency, domain theory, distributed and mobile computing, model checking, planning, software engineering, scheduling, verification, test, and configuration; efficient computation, electronic health records and electronic voting, logical frameworks, software architectures, objectoriented methodology and notations, functional and object-oriented programming languages, proof assistants, semantics, ubiquitous computing, user interfaces , workflow languages. http://www.first.dk

Center for Computer Games Research: Game aesthetics, game ontology, games and narratives, game culture, game play, player communities, games and human computer interfaces/game testing, game artificial intelligence, player (cognitive and affective) modeling, computational intelligence and games.

Design of Organizational IT Group: Computer supported cooperative work, science and technology studies, health care IT, organizations and IT, globalization and technology, mutual shaping of culture, organizations, people, and technologies, through practices

Innovative Communication Group: Advanced and innovative communication trends, historical and rhetorical methods of innovation, theories and applications of new media, design and

Scholarships:
Applicants accepted will be employed and enrolled at the IT University for a period of 3 or 4 years.
Appointment and salary will be in accordance with theagreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC). For example, the basic salary of a 3 year PhD student amounts to DKK 24,117.18 per month.

General information:
A successful applicant will be an excellent student capable of conducting research under supervision by the IT University’s faculty members at the highest international level.

The PhD scholarships run for a period of 3- or 4-years depending on the university degree level of the applicant. The following qualifications are accepted:
• A Master’s degree (5 years of University Studies) qualifies for a 3-year PhD program.
• A Bachelor degree (3 years of University Studies) + one year (60ECTS) qualifies for the 4-year PhD program. The 60 ECTS should be transferable to one of the Master programs at the IT University.
One year of full time studies consists of 1680 hours and equals 60 ECTS points.

Applications must be written in English. All other documents, such as transcripts must be accompanied by a translation in English if not already written in English or Danish. Transcripts that are not issued by a country of the European Union must be accompanied by a grade key or an explanation of your local grading scale (in English).

3. Documentation of previous studies; transcripts, diplomas etc.

5. Either an abstract of your thesis or a selected publication
6. Letters of recommendation are optional as academic records and work will be considered more important.

The statement of purpose must be authored by the applicant and include a research question and main goals.For PhD-applicants working with interdisciplinary approaches that include social science and humanities perspectives the statement of purpose should also include a motivated choice of theory and method, and empirical basis of the research.

Applicants should specifically address whether or not they have needed
disciplinary/methodological training.

The statement of purpose will be used to determine the applicants’ abilities of critical thinking, analytical reasoning, and scientific writing.
