Two PhD students in Data-Driven Modeling in Dynamic Networks (4 years).
The positions for the PhD projects are in the scope of an ERC Advanced Research project on the topic of system identification in dynamic networks. The project will encompass four PhD students, three postdocs and additional staff members, and will be carried out within the Control System Group. It concerns the development of basic methods and tools for data-driven modelling in dynamic networks, including experiment design, topology and network identification, sensor and actuator location optimization, identification for distributed control, algorithm and software development, handling non-synchronous sampling, communication channels as network links, and development of applications in high-tech domains (e.g. smart grids, industrial processes).
The PhD students will develop their own research line around one or more of the topics above, and in conjunction with the team partners.
Control systems group
The research competence of the group is in system identification, model approximation, (nonlinear) model predictive control, spatial-temporal systems, networked and event-driven control, distributed and model-based optimization. With an international staff and close cooperation with industrial research partners, the group covers four technology domains: high-tech systems, industrial production processes, power networks and automotive systems. The group actively participates in the PhD programme of the Dutch Institute of Systems and Control (DISC), and consists of about 35 people, among which 7 full-time academics.
We are looking for candidates who have
- A MSc degree in systems and control, mechanical or electrical engineering, or applied mathematics.
- A strong background in signals and systems analysis. Experience in system identification, data analysis, machine learning and/or system theory is preferable.
- A strong drive towards performing fundamental research in a high-tech environment.
- The ability and interest to work in a team, and strong communication skills.
Conditions of employment
