The Faculty of Pharmaceutical, Biomedical and Veterinary Sciences is seeking to fill a full-time (100%) vacancy in the Centre for Proteomics and the Protein chemistry, Proteomics and Epigenetic Signalling group for a doctoral scholarship holder in the area of proteomics and brain plasticity.

Job description

  • You prepare a doctoral thesis in the field of proteomics and brain plasticity.
  • This job opening has been created in the context of an FWO-project entitled: “Characterization of the distinct impact of one-eyed vision on monocular cortex: a molecular, cellular and systems level analysis of cross-modal brain plasticity in the adult mouse”. 
  • The student will be working in an interdisciplinary environment within a collaboration of two different research groups: the Centre for Proteomics at the University of Antwerp and the Neuroplasticity & Neuroproteomics group at the  KU Leuven.
  • You contribute to supervision of Master theses and research in the Centre for Proteomics.
  • You publish scientific articles related to the research project of the assignment

Profile and requirements

  • You hold a master degree in sciences, (bio-) engineering, pharmaceutical and biomedical sciences.
  • You can submit outstanding academic results.
  • Students in the final year of their degree can also apply.
  • The emphases in your teaching correspond to the educational vision of the university.
  • Your academic qualities comply with the requirements stipulated in the university’s policy.
  • You are quality-oriented, conscientious, creative and cooperative.
  • You have will have a keen interest/knowledge in mass spectrometry and neurophysiology.
  • You have a strong interest in analytical techniques and the willingness to set up new instrumental methodologies and data analysis strategies.
  • Experience in proteomics and/or neurophysiology is considered an advantage.
  • You have excellent English writing skills.

We offer

  • a doctoral scholarship for a period of two years, renewable for  two years after positive evaluation;
  • the start date of the scholarship summer 2016;
  • a gross monthly grant ranging from € 2.189,88 - € 2.334,46;
  • a dynamic and stimulating work environment.
