At Department of Learning and Philosophy, Faculty of Humanities, a position as PhD Fellow in the field of Education is available from 1 February 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

JOB DESCRIPTION

A three-year fully funded PhD scholarship under the research project ‘The Rise of an Educationalized World: A Global Analysis of OECD’s Educational Recommendations, Programmes, and Impact’ will be available from February 1, 2017.
The PhD project is part of a larger research project granted to associate professor Christian Ydesen under the Aalborg University research talent programme. The aim of the research project is to determine:

1) Which networks and connections of agents, organizations, governments, institutions, and which funding flows influence and mediate OECD’s educational recommendations and programmes?

2) How do OECD educational recommendations and programmes impact Member States and non-Member States in terms of dealing with social and economic challenges?

3) What are the differences and similarities across time and place in the OECD’s educational rec-ommendations and programmes and how are they reflected in terms of promoting and shaping an educationalized world?

The project is divided into four work packages of which the PhD student is responsible for two packages.

The first package to be handled by the PhD student investigates OECD initiatives and polices as they are expressed in the following programs: 1) the Member State reviews; 2) the educational investment and planning project launched in 1972; 3) the Education at a Glance annual reports published since 1992; 4) the International Indicators of Educational Systems (INES), established in 1988; 5) the International Adult Literacy Survey (IALS), conducted between 1994 and 1998; 6) the PISA programme from 2000 on; 7) the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) from 2001 on; and the more recent Survey of Adult Skills (PIAAC). The analytical focus of the work stage is the transfer of these programs into pre-selected national contexts.

The second package to be handled by the PhD student mirrors package 1, but focuses on the initiatives and policies orchestrated in relation to non-Member States. The programs treated are 1) the model programmes for working relations with non-Member States launched in the 1960s, and 2) country-specific programs launched in relation to the selected countries.

The PhD student will be enrolled as a PhD student at Department of Learning and Philosophy, Aalborg University. Supervisor will be associate professor Christian Ydesen and the PhD student will be enrolled in the Doctoral Programme ‘Education, Learning and Philosophy’ at Aalborg University.
