Two PhD Scholarships will be awarded to outstanding candidates to undertake research on predictive maintenance and big data management. This project provides a unique opportunity to use real-world data from a global manufacturing company. 

 

These prestigious scholarships, established by La Trobe University in partnership with the Incitec Pivot Ltd (IPL), will be awarded to applicants who are interested in big data predictive analytics.

The expected outcome of the research is to develop techniques to predict remaining useful life of a complex manufacturing plant in the online and rapidly changing environments. The PhD candidates will have the opportunity to be supervised by both subject matter experts from the industry as well as leading researchers from the Department of Computer Science and Information Technology at La Trobe University.

Applicants should have a high level achievement, normally a first class honours degree or equivalent such as a good Masters degree or a degree with extensive research experiences in industry. Candidates with some experiences in the areas of data science, database management, data mining, machine learning, or engineering background in plant fault analysis and modelling, are encouraged to apply.

Benefits of the scholarship

§  A La Trobe Research Scholarship for three years (with a possible extension for up to 6-months), with a value of $26,288 per annum, to support your living costs.

§  A fee-relief scholarship (LTUFFRS) for four years to undertake a PhD at La Trobe University (applicable to international applicants).

§  Expression of Interest Application: send your resume, transcripts, certificates and relevant publications (if any) in one PDF file to the following email: W.Rahayu@latrobe.edu.au

§  If your expression of interest is successful, you will be invited to apply, details on how to apply for candidature available at:

§  Complete and submit your application to the La Trobe Graduate Research School (grs@latrobe.edu.au) by 31 October 2016 for admission into La Trobe’s PhD program, indicating you wish to be considered for an IPL-LTU Industry PhD Scholarship.

The University will carefully review your application and you will be advised of an outcome in December 2016.
