A Doctoral Research Fellowship (SKO 1017) in Media Studies with specialization in Children, Youth and Media is available at the Department of Media and Communication, University of Oslo.

Job description

The research fellowship will be connected to the project EU Kids Online (see and ).  EU Kids Online is a multinational research network. It seeks to enhance knowledge of European children's online opportunities, risks and safety. It uses multiple methods to map children's and parents' experience of the internet, in dialogue with national and European policy stakeholders. The project also cooperates extensively with researchers outside Europe. In 2017-2018 the project will collect data on children’s online engagements across Europe, covering topics like online opportunities and risks, and how these connect individual, social and nation level factors. Risks studied in the project include but are not limited to cyberbullying, pornography and sexual exploitation, use of pro-anorexia and self-harm sites, radicalization, Internet of Things (IoT) and privacy issues, and excessive use.

Knowledge in the use of statistical methods is an advantage, as the statistical data collected can be made available to the doctoral candidate, but we also encourage qualitative, supplementary studies. The candidate will be part of an international network, and will be given the opportunity to work with researchers across the world.
